Top 4 Tips for Selling a Home During the Holidays
The holiday season is typically the slowest time of the year for the housing market. If you’re selling your home this winter, follow these simple tips to get the best offers quickly!
1. Decorate simply, with a focus on the season.
- Use holiday decorations as minimal accents, not as the focal point of any room.
- Make sure the items you’re displaying don’t take up much space, or the room they’re in will feel smaller. Consider skipping the Christmas tree this year if it dominates the room.
- Avoid religious decorations, focusing instead on fall and winter seasonal adornments.
2. Brighten the exterior.
- Shine a spotlight on the front of your house to counteract the winter months’ early darkness.
- Add a little color through simple, seasonal outdoor decorations. Colorful lights can replace the spring and summer months’ flowering plants.
3. Clean, clean, clean!
December often brings showers to Southern California. Don’t let mud and leaves get tracked in to your home! Have your family take off their shoes, clean the floors often, and set out welcome mats that trap dirt and debris.
Consider skipping your holiday hosting duties this year. Home-shoppers may make appointments to view your home at the last minute, and the mess from parties, cooking, and company can be difficult to stay on top of.
4. Hire a dedicated REALTOR®.
- The holiday season is not the time to go it alone. Work with a realty professional who can help you quickly find buyers with a deadline (such as moving for a job), so you can get back to your holiday celebrations.
- Make sure your Realtor® will be available throughout the holidays! Someone who is planning to take time off for the holidays is not a good match for your winter home-selling needs.
We hope that selling your home for a great price this winter brightens your holidays!
