NeighborWorks Week: Celebrating Community Impact and Empowering Future Homeowners

For well over four decades, NeighborWorks Orange County has celebrated NeighborWorks Week held the first week of June. NeighborWorks Week highlights the impact of residents, volunteers, board members, civic leaders among others who share the mission to sustain and maintain homeownership, establish financial empowerment to strengthen communities. NeighborWorks Orange County and network peers host events from selecting homes for home-improvements to hosting financial literacy workshops and homebuyer classes.  The mission is to raise awareness and the importance of strengthening partnerships with key community partners. It is the opportunity to highlight the many accolades our peers have accomplished.

NeighborWorks Orange County has scheduled multiple events throughout the month of June supporting the efforts of NeighborWorks Week;  Homebuyer 101 Webinar, NHEI Webinar, City of Garden Grove Down Payment Assistance Webinar and closing the month with our stellar HUD Approved Homebuyer Education Class.  The virtual classes are a stepping-stone to families seeking to attain wealth building through homeownership. Just like the Medina family.

The Medina family attended the Homebuyer Fair this past July 2024  inquiring about a loan to purchase a mobile home. Prior to attending the homeownership fair, they were told by two realtors their income could only afford a mobile home. The family registered and completed our HUD Approved class in August. The family closed on their home in January with the assistance of down payment assistance.

The family was persistent, sought out resources and now they are homeowners building generational wealth. This is a perfect example on the impact of our homebuyer course and why NeighborWorks Week creates that time ripple evolving into a tsunami of resources through empowerment. It does take a village.
